If you’ve been exploring various pizzas for a while, you’d know there are many different pizza sauces than the typical tomato pizza sauces. I’m talking white sauces, olive oil sauces, pesto sauce and others.

In this guide, I have collected 21 of my favorite recipes for pizza sauces that don’t contain tomato. Try these out during your next pizza baking night, and enjoy something different!

Oil pizza sauces

One of my favorite categories under ‘different pizza sauces’ is oil based sauces. They are super simple to make, yet are full of flavor.

Garlic Oil Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic

Method

Puree both ingredients in a blender until well mixed, and store in a small bowl or jar.

Mediterranean Pizza Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/4 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp. dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp. parsley flakes
  • 1/4 tsp. majoram
  • 1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 tsp. ground black peppercorn

Method

Place all ingredients in a blender

Puree until well blended

Store in a small covered bowl or jar

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 2 tsp chili flakes

Method

Place all ingredients in a blender

  • 1/4 cup salad oil
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/4 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cumin seed
  • 1/4 tsp. ground black peppercorn

Method

Place all ingredients in a blender

Puree until well blended

California Oil Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/4 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp. dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp. parsely flakes
  • 1/4 tsp. majoram
  • 1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 tsp. ground black peppercorn

Method

Place all ingredients in a blender

Puree until well blended

Store in a small covered bowl or jar

White Pizza Sauces

Probably the most common different pizza sauces, white pizza sauces are called ‘bianca’ in Italian.

Easy white pizza sauce

Ingredients

  • 6 tablespoons olive oil
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons white wine
  • 1 teaspoon rosemary
  • 1 teaspoon basil
  • 2 cloves garlic; minced

Method

Add garlic, butter and olive oil in a small saucepan

Stir continuously until cooked

Add all other ingredients and simmer for 15 minutes.

White Pizza Sauce Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/8 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Method

Put first 5 ingredients in a saucepan

Whisk in milk until no lumps remain

Continue stirring and heat until boiling and thickened

Stir in butter until melted

White Garlic Pizza Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons organic butter
  • 3 tablespoons whole wheat pastry flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh basil, minced
  • 1/2 cup parmigiano reggiano cheese, shredded

Method

Heat butter in a small saucepan

Add flour and stir until mixed well

Add milk gradually and whisk

Stir in remaining ingredients

Allow to stand for 5 minutes to thicken

Parmesan garlic pizza sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 4 cloves (2 tsp) garlic, minced
  • 2 Tbsp All Purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups half and half
  • 1 Tbsp grated Parmesan cheese

Method

Add olive oil and minced garlic to a small saucepan over medium-low heat

Cook for a few minutes, whisking constantly so the garlic doesn’t brown

Add the Italian seasoning, salt and pepper and stir.

Sprinkle in the flour and whisk quickly until it is a thick paste

Let cook and bubble for another 1-2 minutes

Add the Parmesan cheese and stir, then turn the heat to low

Let simmer 5-10 minutes to thicken

Yummy Parmesan Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (or a blend of dried basil and oregano)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 dash sea salt (or kosher salt)
  • 1 dash freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Method

Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over low heat

Stir flour in with a fork until the mix is thick

Add butter and flour paste in pan with a fork
Turn up the heat to medium-low and then slowly add in the milk

Whisking it all together and stirring constantly to avoid lumps
Add the Italian seasoning (or basil and oregano), garlic powder, salt, and pepper

Allow  sauce to simmer for 3 to 4 minutes, or until it has thickened

Alfredo Pizza Sauce

Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 ½ cups heavy whipping cream
  • 2 cups freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • A pinch of salt and pepper
  • 4 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasonings

Method

Add butter and heavy cream to a small saucepan

Heat and stir for about 2 minutes

Whisk in the parmesan cheese and seasonings

Whisk until the cheese has melted

Let stand for 1 minute

Creamy White Pizza Sauce

Ingredients

  • 600ml double cream
  • 6 cloves of garlic – skin on
  • 1 tbsp oregano
  • 30g grated parmesan
  • 3 grinds from pepper mill

Method

Reduce double cream and garlic (skin on) in a saucepan on low heat

Stirr occasionally for around 15 minutes

Add garlic and cream through a sieve

Place the cream and garlic sauce back on a gentle heat

Add oregano, pepper and grated parmesan cheese

Stir gently for a few minutes, and then remove from the heat

White wine pizza sauce

Ingredients

  • ½ cup Chardonnay
  • 1 tbsp of minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp of chopped or minced onion
  • ½ cup of olive oil
  • 1 tbsp parmesan cheese
  • 1 tbsp oregano
  • dash of salt and pepper

Method

Combine all ingredients in small saucepan

Stir and heat for 10 minutes on low setting

Green pizza sauces

Green pizza sauce sounds weird, but it’s mostly pesto based. These different pizza sauces add a burst of colour o any pizza.

Mexican Chimichurri Sauce for Pizza

Ingredients

  • ¾ of a bunch of cilantro with stalks
  • 1 tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 1 clove garlic
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • squeeze of lime

Method

Place cilantro stalks and all ingredients into food processor except oil

While food processor is blending, add the oil through the feed tube

Blend until pureed

Pesto Pizza Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (48 g) fresh basil leaves
  • ⅓ cup (39 g) pine nuts
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup (108 ml) olive oil
  • ½ cup (50 g) Parmesan cheese

Method

Using a blender, add fresh basil, pine nuts, and garlic until finely chopped

Add the olive oil while the machine is running

Add the cheese and pulse to incorporate.

Season with salt and pepper to taste

Simple Pesto Pizza Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh basil
  • 1 cup fresh Italian parsley
  • 1⁄2 cup parmesan cheese or 1/2 cup romano cheese, grated
  • 1⁄2 cup pine nuts, toasted
  • 4 cloves garlic, roughly chopped
  • 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
  • 1⁄8 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1⁄2 cup olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons water

Method

Combine all ingredients in a food processor or blender

Puree until the mixture forms a smooth, thick paste

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoon olive oil
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoon water
  • ⅔ cups fresh spinach
  • 3 cups fresh basil
  • 2 cloves garlic

Method

Add all of the sauce ingredients into a blender

Blend until smooth

Vegan white pizza sauce

Ingredients

  • White miso
  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Lemon
  • Parsley
  • Salt + pepper

Method

Add the miso, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, parsley and lemon to a blender

Vegan Green Sauce

Ingredients

3 tablespoons capers
½ cup rocket
1 long green chili
3 garlic cloves
¼ cup almonds
½ cup olive oil

Method

Place all ingredients in a food processor

Blend well, until all combined

Easy Keto White Pizza Sauce Recipe

Ingredients

½ cup butter

¼ cup cream cheese

2 tbsp grated Parmesan

2 tbsp olive oil

2 tbsp chopped onion

Method

Melt the butter and cream cheese on low heat in saucepan

Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well until combined on low heat

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Carlini olive oil
  • ½ cup Countryside Creamery heavy cream
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • ⅛ teaspoon Stonemill dried thyme
  • ½ small onion chopped
  • salt and pepper to taste

Method

In medium saucepan, heal olive oil over medium heat
Add chopped onion and cook until softened
Stir in garlic and cook an additional minute
Add the cream and cook on low medium heat for about 3-5 minutes until cream has thickened slightly
