Homemade pizza dough

Pizza Dough Method

You can purchase a premade pizza base at your local shop or make your own dough following the simple steps below.

  1. Whisk the lukewarm water and yeast in a plastic or glass jug. Let the mixture stand for approx. five minutes.
  2. Add the salt and flour in a large bowl. Create a hollow centre in the flour. Slowly pour the liquid yeast mixture and oil.
  3. Using your hands or a mixer, mix the dough until smooth. Pour dough on a lightly floured work surface and then knead by hand for five minutes.
  4. Place dough into lightly oiled bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Sit in a warm place for roughly 30 minutes to an hour, to rise until it doubles in size.
  5. Fold the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead gently by hand for around five minutes or until smooth.
  6. Divide the dough roughly into equal amounts. Roll out pizza bases for the desired size.
  7. Spread some flour on kitchen bench before rolling, in order to prevent sticking.

TIP: We have other dough recipes if you would like to try your hand at sourdough, poolish or more.

Tomato Pizza Sauce

Tomato Pizza Sauce Method

You can either make your own tasty pizza sauce following the simple steps below, or you can purchase a pizza sauce at your local supermarket.

  1. Mix ingredients in a large bowl.
  2. Pizza sauce should be reasonably smooth.
  3. Let sit in the bowl for 5 minutes.
  4. Your sauce is now ready to add to your pizza bases.
  5. Sauce will last up to 3 days in fridge.

If your sauce is too thick, add a splash of olive oil or water to get the right consistency.

Preparing Banana Curry Pizza

Start by heating your oven to at least 450 degrees.

Spread out your dough on a well floured surface.

If you have a pizza peel, flour the peel and create your pizza on it.

Start by spreading the sauce all over the base. This pizza uses Curry Sauce. Spread the Curry Sauce Thinly yet evenly, leaving a margin for the crust.

Add the largest toppings first – typically meat or seafood, then the smaller toppings.

Add cheese last, and sprinkle it all over to help keep the toppings in place when it melts.

This pizza has the following toppings:

  • Banana Slices
  • Pineapple

I find this pizza fantastic on its own, or why not enjoy it with a simple side dish?

After 10 minutes, open the door and see how cooked pizza is.

Pizza should be ready within 15 minutes. However, allow it to cook to personal taste.

About Pineapple

A contentious pizza topping, Pineapples origins comes from the Brazilian rainforests, where in spread across south and Central America. In 1493, when Columbus landed there, the Spaniards called it “Pina” because it looks like a pinecone.
Recent studies have shown that the minerals and vitamins that appear naturally within Pineapple may strengthen your bones and reduce viral and bacterial infections.

Pizza Tools

When making Banana Curry Pizza, I always recommend that you use whatever kitchen items you have. My basic pizza tools are…

Dough Mixer

Having a good dough mixer can make all the difference. You don’t want to be manually kneading forever, do you?

Oil Jug

Having a nice oil jug to pour olive oil gives you a decadent edge. They don’t cost that much either!

Wooden boards

I use quality wooden boards constantly when making pizzas, botth to carry dough balls and to use when slicing baked pizzas.

Banana

Bananas are actually a berry, not a fruit. They contain seeds inside the flesh, not on the outside. Even more strange, they don’t grow on trees, but rather on a herb. This is because a typical tree has a wood stem, unlike a banana plant, which is made of fibres.

Bananas are a fantastic source of potassium, many minerals and vitamins, and are often referred to as a superfood. Bananas are the the fourth most-valuable food crop in the world. Unsurprisingly, Americans eat 3 million tons of bananas each year.
