Homemade pizza dough

Pizza Dough Method

You purchase a premade pizza base at your local store, or if you have time, make your own homemade dough following the simple steps below.

  1. Whisk the lukewarm water and yeast in a plastic or glass jug. Let the mixture stand for approx. five minutes.
  2. Add salt and flour in a large bowl. Create a hollow well in the middle and gently pour the liquid yeast mixture and oil.
  3. Using dough mixer or hands, gently mix dough until smooth. Place pizza dough on a lightly floured work surface and then knead by hand for five minutes.
  4. Lightly oil a bowl, and place mixture in and cover with plastic wrap. Leave in a warm place to rise until the dough doubles in size.
  5. Pour dough mix out onto a clean, floured surface. Now hand knead gently for another five minutes.
  6. Sprinkle a little flour on the bench before rolling to prevent dough from sticking.
  7. Divide dough mixture into equal sized balls. Hand stretch or roll out the bases to the expected size.

You can make the sauce the day before and refrigerate to save time.

Whilst this pizza is delicious by itself, yet why not enjoy it with a simple side dish?

Cooking

Put the Barbacoa pizza on the middle shelf in oven, and wait ten minutes.

After approximately 10 minutes, open oven door and check on pizza.

The pizza should be done within roughly 15 minutes. Always cook to personal tastes.

About Bacon

Often used as a flavouring or side dish, Bacon is a type of salt-cured pork. Bacon is created through a curing process, where the meat is soaked in a solution of salt, nitrates and sometimes sugar. Afterwards, the Bacon is typically smoked.
Bacon’s history goes back thousands of years to China in 1500 BC. Pigs were also being raised in Europe by 1500 BC, possibly for the same purpose. In Middle English the word Bacon meant all pork in general.

Pizza Tools

When making Barbacoa Pizza, I always recommend that you use what you have already, and avoid spending a ton of money. My recommended basic pizza tool list is…

Kitchen Scales

Do you have quality digital kitchen scales? It’s a great tool for any chef or pizza cook.

Pizza Scissors

These may seem like a weird tool to some, however other pizzaiolo’s swear by using scissors instead of a traditional pizza cutter.

Pizza Steel

A pizza steel is very similar to a pizza stone, and works the same way in a normal kitchen oven.

Beef

Beef is a popular pizza topping that can take your pizza to the next level. It can be used in combination with other ingredients to create flavor combinations unlike any other!

Not only that, but beef is also a great source of several important nutrients such as protein, iron and zinc. You should always use high-quality ground beef or chopped steak for optimal flavor.

Storage Ideas

Have leftover pizza? Here’s what to do.

Warm in the center of a 450 degree F oven for approximately 6 minutes, on a pizza stone if possible, until heated through. See our article on reheating pizza for more.

Freezer guide

You can store leftover pizza in the freezer for up to 3 months. Reheat from frozen as directed above until heated through.
