Homemade pizza dough

Pizza Dough Method

If you don’t have much time, grab a premade pizza base at your local grocery store, or hand make your own pizza dough following the simple steps below. Some shops even carry premade pizza dough in balls.

  1. Whisk the lukewarm water and yeast in a plastic or glass jug. Let the mixture stand for approx. five minutes.
  2. Add salt and flour in a large bowl. Create a hollow well in the middle and gently pour the liquid yeast mixture and oil.
  3. Using dough mixer or hands, gently mix dough until smooth. Place pizza dough on a lightly floured work surface and then knead by hand for five minutes.
  4. Lightly oil a bowl, and place mixture in and cover with plastic wrap. Leave in a warm place to rise until the dough doubles in size.
  5. Pour dough mix out onto a clean, floured surface. Now hand knead gently for another five minutes.
  6. Sprinkle a little flour on the bench before rolling to prevent dough from sticking.
  7. Divide dough mixture into equal sized balls. Hand stretch or roll out the bases to the expected size.

Preparing Beef Pizza

Preheat your oven to roughly 500 degrees.

Roll out the dough to either slightly smaller than your pizza stone or tray.

Alternatively, if you have a pizza peel, roll out to be smaller than that.

You start by spreading the sauce around. This pizza calls for Steak Sauce. Spread the Steak Sauce evenly using the back of a large spoon or ladle.

Then start adding the largest ingredients, then work your way down. The last is any cheese topping, such as Mozzarella, which you should evenly cover the other toppings with, and then finally any herbs.

Toppings to put on this pizza are;

  • Beef Fillet
  • Herb Butter

This pizza is very good as is, or you could make some homemade garlic bread as well?

Oven time

Put the Beef pizza in the middle of your oven (on a pizza steel if you have one) and set timer for 10 minutes.

After 10 minutes, open the door and see how cooked pizza is.

Pizza should be ready within 15 minutes. However, allow it to cook to personal taste.

About Herb Butter

Herb Butter can be easily made by combining herbs and garlic with softened Butter. This is then used to enhance the flavor of dishes. Another variation of herb Butter is when you add sweet things to Butter, such as sugar, honey or cinnamon.
Herb Butter is a fantastic make-ahead condiment, lasting 4-5 days in the fridge and up to 6 weeks in the freezer.

Pizza Tools

When making Beef Pizza, we always recommend that you use whatever tools you are able to get your hands on. Our basic pizza tools are…

Pastry Brush

If you ever coat your dough in water, oil, eggs or more, then you need a pastry brush. These brushes tend to be cheap to have and very handy to use.

Kitchen Scales

Do you have quality digital kitchen scales? It’s a great tool for any chef or pizza cook.

Pizza Scissors

These may seem like a weird tool to some, however other pizzaiolo’s swear by using scissors instead of a traditional pizza cutter.

Pizza making FAQ

Want to know how to make delicious pizza at home? Here are some FAQ and their answers to the most common pizza making questions.

Can I use a mixer to make the dough?

Sure thing! I regularly do. Always use a mixer with a dough hook attachment to make your pizza dough. First, add the dry ingredients and form a well to add the liquid, then always start on the lowest speed first, before increasing the speed and mixing for 5-6 minutes. If your mixer starts sounding like it’s straining, turn it to a slower speed for a longer time.

Where was the world’s most expensive pizza made?

The worlds most expensive pizza costs $12,000 and is made in Salerno, Italy.

Can I use ciabatta bread for making pizza?

Yes! Breads are great to make pizza on, as it is quicker than making your own dough from scratch. Try my favourite, which is flat bread. It gets very crispy though, so don’t cook it for long. Otherwise, ciabatta or italian breads are also good alternatives if you are short on time.
