Homemade pizza dough

Pizza Dough Method

Purchase a premade pizza base at your local store, or if you have time, make your own homemade dough following the simple steps below. Some shops even carry pizza dough balls.

  1. Whisk yeast and lukewarm water in a jug. Stand for around five minutes.
  2. Add flour and salt in a large bowl. Create a well in the centre of the flour. Pour in the liquid yeast mixture and the oil.
  3. Using a spatula, or your hands, mix the dough really well until smooth. Turn out dough onto a lightly floured work surface and knead for five minutes.
  4. Lightly oil a bowl, and place dough in it and cover with plastic wrap. Leave in a warm place to rise for 30 minutes to an hour, or until it doubles in size.
  5. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently for another 5 minutes or until smooth.
  6. Divide the dough into balls, and roll out bases to desired size.
  7. Sprinkle a little flour on the bench before rolling to prevent dough from sticking.

TIP: We have other dough recipes if you would like to try your hand at sourdough, poolish or more.

Oven time

Put the Bianca pizza on the middle shelf of the oven and set a timer for 10 minutes.

After 10 minutes, open the door and check the pizza.

This pizza should take approximately 15 minutes, however allow it to cook to personal taste.

About Rosemary

Rosemary has been used for cooking since at least 500 BC, if not before. An ancient legend says that the Virgin Mary placed her blue cloak over a white flowered rosemary bush while she was resting, and the flowers turned blue. The shrub was then named the “Rose of Mary”.
In Greek mythology, it is said that Rosemary was draped around the Greek goddess Aphrodite when she rose out of the sea. As a medicinal herb, it has long been suggested that it helps strengthen your memory and the brain overall.

Pizza Tools

When making Bianca Pizza, I suggest you just use what you have available, without spending any money. My recommended basic pizza tool list is…

Dough Mixer

OK, so this isn’t vital, but if you make enough pizza, breads, etc it is worth investing in a good mixer for your dough.

Mesh Sieve

You will find having a seive such a useful element for all your baking, not just for pizza. It’s great to filter all flours through a fine mesh sieve before adding to recipes.

Pizza Peel

A pizza peel aka paddle is a crucial tool for those who are making pizza often.

Pancetta

Pancetta is an interesting pizza topping that can add complex flavor and texture to your favorite pizza. This cured Italian bacon has a salty, smoky flavor that pairs excellently with earthy mushrooms, tangy olives, sweet caramelized onions and piquant peppers.

Pancetta also adds a crispy crunch to every bite of your pizza pie. If you’ve never tried pancetta on your pizza before, it’s time to give it a go!

Yes, however I personally prefer white sugar. I feel it helps feed the yeast better, however all of pizza dough making is constant experimentation, so try it out with brown sugar and you may be surprised with the results!

You should defrost frozen pizza dough by leaving it in a warm place for at least a few hours. You can also then use the defrost mode on your microwave to speed up the process a little.
