Pizza Dough Method
You purchase a premade pizza base at your local store, or if you have time, make your own homemade dough following the simple steps below.
- Whisk yeast and lukewarm water in glass or plastic container. Let stand for approximately 5 minutes.
- Add flour and salt in a large bowl. Create a well in the centre of the flour. Pour in the liquid yeast mixture and the oil.
- Using your hands or a mixer, mix the dough until smooth. Pour dough on a lightly floured work surface and then knead by hand for five minutes.
- Place dough into lightly oiled bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Sit in a warm place for roughly 30 minutes to an hour, to rise until it doubles in size.
- Fold the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead gently by hand for around five minutes or until smooth.
- Spread some flour on kitchen bench before rolling, in order to prevent sticking.
- Divide the dough roughly into equal amounts. Roll out pizza bases for the desired size.

- Mix ingredients in a large bowl.
- Mix well using a whisk, or blender.
- Leave sitting for five minutes.

Remember that you can always adjust the garlic level in your pizza sauce recipe to suit your taste.

Preparing Neapolitan Pizza
Preheat your oven to at least 450 degrees for 30 minutes or longer.
Spread out pizza dough on floured surface.
If you have a pizza peel, you can create your pizza on it (after flouring).
Start by spreading the sauce all over the base. This pizza uses San Marzano Tomato Sauce. Spread the San Marzano Tomato Sauce Thinly yet evenly, leaving a margin for the crust.
Add the largest toppings first – typically meat or seafood, then the smaller toppings.
Add cheese last, and sprinkle it all over to help keep the toppings in place when it melts.
This pizza has the following toppings:
- Mozzarella
- Olive Oil
- Basil
I find this pizza delicious on its own, or why not pair it with another pizza as well?
Cooking time
Put the Neapolitan pizza in oven, and set alarm for ten minutes.
After 10 minutes, open the door and see how cooked pizza is.
Pizza should be ready within 15 minutes. However, allow it to cook to personal taste.

About Basil
Native to tropical regions, Basil is mostly grown as a herb to add to dishes. The Leaves can be used either dried or fresh on salads, pasta, meats, fish and, of course, pizza.
Basil works best alongside toppings such as cheeses, Tomatoes, lemon, garlic and Olives. Weird fact: ancient Roman gardeners thought that Basil would grow larger, if you yelled and cursed at the plant.

Pizza Tools
When making Neapolitan Pizza, I always recommend that you use what you have already, and avoid spending a ton of money. My recommended basic pizza tool list is…
Bench Scrapers
Good quality metal or plastic bench scrapers make it so much esier to both cut your dough, and scrape your bench. I prefer plastic to avoid scratching my bench.
Measuring Cups
Pizza making is all about precision, so having a full set of both wet and dry measuring cups on hand is critical. It is so important when making pizza dough to accurately measure all your ingredients.

Mozzarella
Fresh Mozzarella is typically white, however when seasoned it can change to light yellow, depending on the animal’s diet. Due to its high moisture content, it is traditionally served the day after it is made, however it can be kept in brine for a week, or even longer if packaged well.
Mozzarella was first cited in an Italian cookbook in 1570. Nowadays, Mozzarella can be twisted to form a plait, and called Treccia. You can also buy it as a smoked cheese, called Affumicata.

Interesting…
These are all true, believe me!
Pizza by plane
There’s a restaurant located in Alaska, called Airport Pizza. As the name suggests, they deliver pizzas by plane.
Frozen pizza was invented in 1957
Originally only available in grocery stores at first, until popularity grew, and is now on shelves at convenience stores, grocery stores, gas stations and bars.
Sweet dreams!
In 2016, UK Pizzeria, Crazy Pedro’s, launched a Cadbury Creme Egg Pizza. As well as the creme eggs, the pizza is also topped with marshmallows, brownies and chocolate sauce.

Pizza making FAQ
Below we’ve compiled the most common pizza making questions and provided expert answers. Are you looking for how to make delicious pizza at home? Please read on!
How do I use a pizza peel?
As soon as your dough is topped, immediately slide it onto your freshly floured pizza peel on a 15-30 degree angle, then open your oven and shimmy it onto the super-hot stone or wood fired oven base, using quick back and forth motions.
Should I get a pizza stone when making homemade pizza?
If you can afford it, yes. A pizza baking stone gives you the best chance to make restaurant quality pizzas at home. A pizza stone creates the hottest-possible environment in a home oven, which results in crusts that rise perfectly around the edges and brown just right on the top and bottom. The only thing better is your own wood fired pizza oven.
When making pizza dough should I spray the pan?
It is important that you ensure your dough doesn’t stick to any bowls or pans that you use. I prefer to gently wipe olive oil across the surface using a paper towel, however spray olive oil used in moderation works just as well for this purpose.
