Homemade pizza dough

Pizza Dough Method

You can either make your own dough following the simple steps below, or you can purchase a premade pizza base at your local store.

  1. Whisk yeast and lukewarm water in a jug. Stand for around five minutes.
  2. Add the salt and flour in a large bowl. Create a hollow centre in the flour. Slowly pour the liquid yeast mixture and oil.
  3. Using your hands or spatula, gently combine the flour mixture until smooth. Then turn out dough onto lightly floured surface and hand knead for roughly five minutes.
  4. Place the dough mixture in to an oiled bowl, and cover with plastic wrap. Leave in a warm place until the dough has at least risen to double in size.
  5. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Hand knead gently for five minutes until reasonably smooth.
  6. Sprinkle some flour on work surface before rolling out dough to prevent any sticking.
  7. Divide dough mix into equal amounts, now roll out the bases to the desired size.

TIP: We have other dough recipes if you would like to try your hand at sourdough, poolish or more.

Simple Olive Oil Pizza Sauce

Olive Oil Method

You can either make your own tasty pizza sauce following the simple steps below, or you can purchase a pizza sauce at your local supermarket.

  1. Press or finely chop the garlic into a small bowl.
  2. Add the olive oil, oregano, and coarse salt.
  3. Stir ingredients well together.
  4. Apply to pizza bases.
  5. May add pepper or chilli flakes.

Try using a pesto sauce, or adding a little pesto to your sauce for a new flavour.

Preparing Pinsa Romana Pizza

Preheat your oven to roughly 500 degrees.

Roll out the dough to either slightly smaller than your pizza stone or tray.

Alternatively, if you have a pizza peel, roll out to be smaller than that.

You start by spreading the sauce around. This pizza calls for Olive Oil. Spread the Olive Oil evenly using the back of a large spoon or ladle.

Then start adding the largest ingredients, then work your way down. The last is any cheese topping, such as Mozzarella, which you should evenly cover the other toppings with, and then finally any herbs.

Toppings to put on this pizza are;

  • Smoked Provolone
  • Mushroom

Whilst this pizza is excellent by itself, yet why not with other pizzas as well?

Oven time

Put the Pinsa Romana pizza in the middle of your oven (on a pizza steel if you have one) and set timer for 10 minutes.

After 10 minutes, open oven and look at pizza.

The pizza should be done within roughly 15 minutes. Always cook to personal tastes.

About Mushroom

There are thousands of varieties of Mushrooms, with different colors, shapes, and sizes. All of the edible ones are low in calories and fat, and contain modest amounts of fiber and various nutrients.
Mushrooms have been eaten and used as medicine for thousands of years. Button, Oyster, Portobello, Shiitake and Enoki are among the most popular Mushrooms to eat raw or cooked.

Pizza Tools

When making Pinsa Romana Pizza, it’s always handy to have the right pizza making tools. Here’s what items I always recommend…

Quality Food Containers

Leftovers need to go somewhere, and I don’t enjoy using aluminium foil or plastic wrap all the time. A couple of good air tight containers should be in every home.

Pizza Peel

Sometimes called a paddle or shovel, a pizza peel is a vital tool for those who make pizza regularly.

Wooden Rolling Pin

Many people prefer hand stretching, however every cook really should have a good wooden roller nearby too.

Smoked Provolone Cheese

Smoked Provolone cheese adds a unique flavor to the classic pizza topping. Its smoky, salty taste makes it a popular choice for those looking to add variety to their favorite pizzas.

It pairs well with other smoked ingredients like bacon, ham and sausage, or even vegetables like peppers and onions. When melted on top of your pizza, smoked provolone cheese creates an incredibly rich and savory flavor profile that will satisfy any appetite.
