Homemade pizza dough

Pizza Dough Method

You can either make your own pizza dough following the simple steps below, or you can purchase a premade base at your local store.

  1. Whisk yeast and lukewarm water in a jug. Leave sitting for roughly five minutes.
  2. Add flour and salt in a large bowl. Create a well in the centre of the flour. Pour in the liquid yeast mixture and the oil.
  3. Using dough mixer or hands, gently mix dough until smooth. Place pizza dough on a lightly floured work surface and then knead by hand for five minutes.
  4. Lightly oil a bowl, and place mixture in and cover with plastic wrap. Leave in a warm place to rise until the dough doubles in size.
  5. Pour dough mix out onto a clean, floured surface. Now hand knead gently for another five minutes.
  6. Divide dough mixture into equal sized balls. Hand stretch or roll out the bases to the expected size.
  7. Spread some flour on kitchen bench before rolling, in order to prevent sticking.

Spread out pizza dough on floured surface.

Start by spreading the sauce all over the base. This pizza uses Tzatziki. Spread the Tzatziki Thinly yet evenly, leaving a margin for the crust.

Add the largest toppings first – typically meat or seafood, then the smaller toppings.

Add cheese last, and sprinkle it all over to help keep the toppings in place when it melts.

About Bell Pepper

Also called sweet pepper, paprika or capsicum, Bell Peppers are a fruit of plants in the Capsicum species. Green Chili Peppers are not a different species, but rather just the unripe state of red peppers. Green Chili Peppers are the most aggressively flavoured, being naturally acidic and sometimes a little bitter.
Red Pepperss are sweeter and gentler, and used either cooked or raw. Orange and Yellow peppers are individual varieties rather than stages between green and red peppers. They have been specially bred to be sweet and gentle.

Pizza Tools

When making Tzatziki Pizza, I always recommend that you use what you have already, and avoid spending a ton of money. My recommended basic pizza tool list is…

Mesh Sieve

You will find having a seive such a useful element for pizza making as well as all your baking. It’s great to filter all flours through a fine mesh sieve, to make sure they’re ready for use.

Bench Scrapers

Good quality metal or plastic bench scrapers make it so much esier to both cut your dough, and scrape your bench. I prefer plastic to avoid scratching my bench.

Measuring Cups

Pizza making is all about precision, so having a full set of both wet and dry measuring cups on hand is critical. It is so important when making pizza dough to accurately measure all your ingredients.

Gyros Meat

Gyros meat is typically made from lamb, sometimes a combination of beef and lamb, or even chicken. The meats are then heavily seasoned with herbs, spices and salt to create the unique gyros taste.

Gyros meat is usually quite high in Iron. Iron is an important nutrient for your metabolism and it helps with the production of red blood cells in the body.
